The Plan

There are many areas in need of support but this community group currently has a focus for amenities within the Silver Terrace Recreation Area. While the sports fields have been renovated twice (2006 and 2019) the associated surrounding areas, the playground, rec center, restrooms and alleyway have been left behind.

In 2022, the alleyway between Ledyard and Waterville received a Community Challenge grant from the city to make significant improvements to the area. We will use this smaller project to engage neighbors in the design to transform the alleyway. 

With a growing group of community members, we can then advocate for the larger Silver Terrace Recreation Center renovations. These renovations should include:

Picnic Tables – This area has not a single picnic table. We also know there is a senior community who uses this area and would benefit for table tops to play games which are now played on benches. 

Renovated Playground –  The old playground is used everyday by the preschool renting the Rec Center, the large neighborhood family population, and siblings of sports players across SF.  

Despite being an essential resource, it suffers from unsafe conditions, rotting wood, poor use of space, broken swings and benches and unmaintained sand.

Dog Run – As dogs are more popular than children in SF, there Recreation Area has ample space to build a dog run. 

Renovated Rec Center and Restrooms – This structure serves as the restrooms for the entire area and sports courts and is in need of a renovation.

Other needs to be identified by the community - Any renovations to the area need to represent the diverse uses of Silver Terrace residents and visitors. So please join us and make your voice heard!
